Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce Hosts Governance Education Session with Watson Board Advisors
Strong organizations begin with strong leadership, and effective governance plays an essential role in building accountability, transparency, and long-term success.
On November 5, 2026, the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce hosted Practical Governance for Today’s Boards, an educational breakfast session in collaboration with Watson Board Advisors at the Coast Chilliwack Hotel by APA.
The event brought governance education into focus for board members, executive leaders, business professionals, and individuals interested in understanding how effective boards contribute to stronger organizations and communities.
Understanding the Role of Effective Governance
As organizations navigate increasingly complex challenges, the importance of clearly defined responsibilities, sound decision-making, and strong board leadership continues to grow.
The session focused on several important aspects of governance, including:
- The foundations of effective board governance
- Director responsibilities and fiduciary obligations
- The distinct roles of boards, board chairs, and executive leadership
- Understanding the difference between governance and day-to-day operations
- Addressing common governance challenges
- Building stronger, more accountable organizations
These principles are particularly relevant to non-profit organizations, chambers of commerce, businesses, and other member-based organizations that rely on effective leadership to achieve their missions.
Learning from Governance Professionals
The session featured Robyn Curry, Senior Associate, and Hannah Duchnycz, Associate, from Watson Board Advisors.
Drawing on their experience supporting boards and leadership teams across Canada, the advisors brought valuable expertise in governance practices, organizational effectiveness, board responsibilities, and leadership development.
The program also included an interactive question-and-answer component, creating an opportunity for participants to explore governance topics and seek practical guidance.
