U.S. Tariffs and What They Mean for B.C. Businesses
New 50 per cent U.S. tariffs on a range of Canadian goods are scheduled to take effect on August 19, 2026.
The tariffs extend across several key sectors, including forestry and wood products, pulp and paper, agriculture, alcoholic beverages, dairy, construction materials, machinery, plastics, consumer goods, and transportation equipment.
For B.C. businesses, the potential impacts include increased costs, reduced competitiveness, supply chain disruptions, and additional pressure on industries that rely on cross border trade.
The BC Chamber of Commerce has prepared a member explainer outlining the affected products, how key B.C. sectors may be exposed, and practical steps businesses can take to prepare.
Businesses are encouraged to review their exposure, plan for potential cost increases, explore opportunities within Canada and other international markets, and share their experiences with their local Chamber.
The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce will continue to share information and resources while bringing the concerns of our local business community forward through our advocacy work.
