On behalf of the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce, I want to congratulate Mayor-elect Jason Lum and the six councillors elected on October 17:
- Chris Kloot
- Nicole Huitema-Read
- Trevor McDonald
- Steve Czeck
- Kevin Baarda
- Sue Attrill-Knott
Congratulations to Councillors Kloot and Huitema-Read on being re-elected. Welcome to Trevor, Steve, Kevin and Sue as they start their first terms around the council table.
We also want to recognize every candidate who put their name forward for mayor or council this year. Running for office takes a lot of time, energy and courage. Whatever the result, each of you made this election stronger and gave voters a real choice. Thank you.
Thank You to Outgoing Mayor and Council
We want to thank outgoing Mayor Ken Popove and Councillors Bud Mercer, Jeff Shields and Harv Westeringh for their years of service to Chilliwack. Public service asks a lot of the people who take it on and their families. Our community and our business sector are better for their work, and we wish each of them all the best in what comes next.
Looking Ahead
The Chamber’s mission is to promote, enhance and facilitate the development of Chilliwack’s business community. We take that seriously, and a big part of it is speaking up for local business at City Hall. We are excited to work with Mayor-elect Lum and the new council on the issues our members raise with us most often:
- Making it easier to do business in Chilliwack. That means clear, timely permitting and approvals, and less red tape for businesses looking to start, grow or invest here.
- Keeping taxes fiscally responsible. Businesses need predictable costs and a City that spends carefully, so they can keep hiring and reinvesting in our community.
Good policy works best when the people it affects are part of the conversation. The Chamber encourages and empowers our members to take an active part in our local economy, and we will keep bringing their voices forward to council. If you are a business owner with something you want council to hear, we want to hear from you too.
Congratulations again to our new Mayor and Council. We look forward to working with you.
