Chilliwack Chamber Responds to Budget 2026

The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce shares the BC Chamber of Commerce’s serious concerns with Budget 2026 and the lack of a meaningful plan to strengthen British Columbia’s economy.

After several difficult years for employers following the pandemic, businesses were looking for a budget that would restore confidence, improve competitiveness, and deliver real economic momentum. Instead, Budget 2026 offers limited inspiration for the job creators and investors our communities rely on.

While the Province has included some targeted investments in areas such as skills training, permitting improvements, and temporary incentives for manufacturing, these measures are overshadowed by the overall imbalance in priorities. The ratio of spending between social services and economic development — roughly seven to one — sends a clear message that economic growth is not being treated as the urgent priority it must be.

Healthy businesses are the foundation of healthy communities. Without stronger support for economic development, British Columbia risks continued slow growth, rising costs, and fewer opportunities for families and employers alike.

The Chilliwack Chamber will continue advocating for policies and investments that support local businesses, encourage growth, and ensure our region remains a competitive place to live, work, and build prosperity.
