Chamber Report June 2019
Message from the Executive Director, Leanna Kemp
Mayhem in May- Your Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce was hard at work for you and your businesses. Health and Wellness was the primary focus as we partnered with 6 local businesses to sample what they offer as well as learn about what Corporate Health and Fitness options are available in our community.
We would like to thank Orange Theory Fitness, Ascend Fitness Inc, Studio B Yoga, World Gym Athletics, Club XO and YMCA for their partnerships and dedication to bringing health and wellness to the workplace.
We hosted our second annual series of Golf and Gab at Chilliwack Golf Club where ladies learned the game of golf as well as enjoyed the opportunity to network with other like-minded ladies.
May 28th– Chilliwack Redefined: The Future of Development and Retail Landscape. The Chamber of Commerce invited 4 local developers to come and speak to us about the changing retail and development landscape of Chilliwack as well as to share with us their vision of their respective areas.
Michael Gilman- VP of Development for Western Canada for SmartCentres (Chilliwack Mall)
Jarvis Rouillard- VP of Leasing and Acquisitions for PCI develpments (Cottonwood Mall)
Dave Algra- Sales and Development Manager for Algra Bros. (Downtown Chilliwack)
Chief David Jimmie- President and CEO of Squiala First Nation
The most exciting news that came out of this event is that between these 4 developments, in the next 2-3 years, Chilliwack will see over $100 million dollars of reinvestment into our community! Very exciting news!
And on the note of exciting:
Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce wins CHAMBER OF THE YEAR in BC
Last week, over 300 Chamber Executives attended the annual BC Chamber of Commerce AGM and Conference, in Burnaby, B.C. Significant time was spent in the ‘Policy Sessions’, where recommendations were discussed, voted on, and packaged together in a guide (Policy Manual) used to communicate important issues to government.
While the BC Chamber of Commerce recognizes efforts on a provincial level, they also focus attention on critical work done in local communities every day.
The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce was recognized as the 2018 CHAMBER OF THE YEAR, for its leadership in the cultural context of moving forward together, demonstrating #grit, and for exemplifying what the BC Chamber calls, “Harnessing the power of the crowd”.
As a significant network, the Chamber of Commerce understands their role in fostering Economic Reconciliation and bringing the entire business community together. This includes partnering with the emerging Indigenous business communities around the Province.
We are very honored and humbled to receive and be recognized for this very coveted award.
